2.1    Domestic Violence - General

This sub-section focuses on general information about domestic violence survivors. While much of the information is presented in gender neutral terms it should be remembered that all available evidence suggests that more women than men are victims of domestic violence. This means that much of the information that has been developed around domestic violence has been developed in response to women’s experiences as survivors. It is not good practice to assume that what we know about female victims is equally applicable to male victims. Nor should it be assumed that simply providing mirror-image services for male victims is appropriate. For further information about male survivors see Section 2.4
